Pierre Bourdieu: A Select Introduction to His Work

Pierre Bourdieu: A Select Introduction to His Work

Module Instructor: Dr. André Elias Mazawi

In their ‘Preliminary reflections on the legacy of Pierre Bourdieu’, Simon Susen and Bryan S. Turner (2011) point out that Bourdieu’s work is ‘multithematic’, ‘multidisciplinary’, ‘eclectic’, ’empirically grounded and theoretically informed’, and ‘politically committed’. The segments of this online course offer participants a critical introduction into select aspects of Pierre Bourdieu’s (1930-2002) work in terms of his approach to, and the study of the social life-world, the relations between structure and agency, symbolic and material forms of power, and the questions of domination, politics, and the production of meaning.
